PA Crew / Sports Leaders Now Trained
A group of Year 6 children have undertaken Peer Advocacy and Sports Leader Training. We met together to find out what qualities we need to make good Peer Advocates. The group watched a video “On a Mission to Listen” and discussed how best to solve different problems. Later we spent time learning all about how to play and help the younger children as Sports Leaders. From next week a group of the PA Crew will be on the yard in their distinctive Blue Bibs ready to support the younger children and on the look out for any other children who may need their help.
In the next couple of weeks there will be a special assembly when members of the P A Crew will introduce themselves to the children and receive their Certificates confirming that they are now fully trained members of the PA Crew and Sports Leaders.
There will be more sessions on a regular basis to further develop the children’s skills in Peer Advocacy.
P A Crew for 2011/12
Mrs Pearson and Mrs Culshaw will be holding a training day for P A Crew very shortly. The day will consist of training using “A Mission to Listen” and Sports Leader training. Children who have put their names forward in Year 6 will be invited to come to the training.
New Recruits for P A Crew
.In the next few weeks Mrs Pearson will be asking children in Year 4 and 5 whether they would like to be part of the PA Crew for next term and the following year. We will then hold training sessions to enable you to understand what is required and help you as both Pupil Advocates and Sports Leaders. To be a good member of the PA Crew you need to be a good listener, a good communicator, able to work in a team, a good example to others, trustworthy and most of all want to help the other pupils. You will wear the distinctive PA Crew Bibs so everybody can clearly see who you are when you are on the Yard.

Being Dyslexia Friendly
At the Network Day at Lace the Peer Advocates learnt all about being Dyslexia Friendly. You should use blue paper and use large bold font. The buddies found out that people who have Dyslexia are good at lots of other things like problem solving and inventing things. There are lots of famous people who have Dyslexia such as the actor Tom Cruise and the famoust Albert Einstein. We are using a blue background on our P A Crew Blog to help those with Dyslexia.

Here at Springwood Heath we have trained pupils from Year 5 and 6 to act as Buddies, they have also been trained to play games and sports with the younger children. They will all be wearing distingtive PA Crew Bibs so you can clearly see who they are when they are on the Yard.
Very shortly we will be holding an Assembly so that all the children in school will get to know who the PA crew are and what they will be doing.
